Library Depository

University of Missouri
Columbia, Missouri

PGAV worked with the University of Missouri Libraries to design a new off-campus, high-density storage facility for archiving and preserving library materials. The University of Missouri Libraries Depository opened in 1997 and was planned for future expansion. The initial 12,000 SF module enables UM Libraries to economically store and preserve approximately 1.1 million volumes of library and archival material. The module is supported by complete receiving, processing, and staff support facilities. The building’s exterior utilizes traditional pre-engineered metal building roof and wall systems customized to provide demanding thermal performance and a continuous high-performance vapor barrier system. Mechanical systems are designed to maintain the module's interior environment at an ideal temperature and relative humidity. PGAV recently completed the design of a second module for UMLD. The 11,000 SF module expanded the facility’s capacity by 1.2 million volumes, bringing the total capacity of the library storage facility to 2.3 million volumes. Each module houses five aisles of stacks, with two ranges comprising each aisle. A “Raymond” is utilized by staff to access the stacks.
