Lion and Kopje
Exhibit ImproVEMENTs

Kansas City Zoo
Kansas City, Missouri

PGAV provided design services for improvements to the Lion viewing building and surrounding area. The primary focus of the improvements was to correct non-accessible guest pathways and public areas in the Kopje area, but PGAV also assisted the Zoo in reimagining and truly transforming the viewing experience by renovating the existing lion viewing building and the smaller exhibits in the Kopje area.

The Lion viewing building provides expansive views of the lion pride and a new training wall for more interactive keeper chats. Much larger than the previous viewing building, the new structure provides more seating, including ADA-designated areas to improve accessibility accommodations, and more conditioned space for guests on hot, summer days.

In addition, PGAV designed a restroom and animal holding building across the pathway from the Lion viewing building. This building provides gender-neutral restrooms, a mother’s room, and animal holding to support a new caracal exhibit.
